    PHAUNG DAW OO PAGODA FESTIVAL (August 31, 2007)


    The biggest event in the southern area of Shan takes place at Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda that situated in Inle Lake, one of the most amazing and magical places in Asia. This festival is held with great magnificence and pageantry for 18 days from the first day of the waxing moon to the third day after the full moon day of Thadingyut.
    This year Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival will begin on 12th October and end on 29th October. Days of 18th and 22nd October are the best time to explore and take photographs.

    RAKHINE MONTEE, TRADITIONAL FOOD OF RAKHINE (August 29, 2007)


    At the present time, one of the popular foods in Yangon is Rakhine Montee. Rakhine Montee is the famous food of Rakhine, one the National races of Myanmar who live in western part of the country. It is like the most popular Myanmar traditional food, Mohinnga. It is the rice noodle in the fish soup with supplements such as coriander leaf, tamarind juice and the pounded green chilly. The fish soup is slightly spicy made of fresh water fish, fish paste, ginger, garlic and pepper. Then the taste is a little hot and spicy as appetizer soup. So people enjoy Rakhine Montee in this climate condition.

    MYANMAR TRADITIONAL BOXING CONTEST (August 23, 2007)



    We would like to give information for the persons who are interested in boxing. Now a Myanmar Traditional Boxing contest for Gold belt Championship will be held at Thuwana National Stadium. The competitors from all over the Myanmar will compete on that contest. The competition program is as follows:
    Quarter Final - 25th & 26th August at 14:00 hrs
    Semi Final - 1st & 2nd September at 14:00 hrs
    Final - 9th September
    Donft miss this opportunity to survey the contest while you are in Myanmar on that period.

    ALMS OFFERING CEREMONIES IN 14 PAGODAS OF SAGAING (August 21, 2007)


    Sagaing has plenty of stupas scattered over the Sagaing hills. As Sagaing is a religious center, regularly 14 pagodas have alms offering ceremonies at dawn during Lent Period from full moon day of Waso (29th July, 2007) to full moon day of Thadingyut (26th October, 2007) every year. These are four pagodas in Sagaing and ten pagodas on Sagaing Hill. The ceremonies are one after another in seniority as follows:
    (1) Sone U Pone Nya Shin Pagoda   (2) Taung Phe Lar Pagoda
    (3) Zay Ta Wun Pagoda                   (4) Chan Thar Gyi Pagoda
    (5) Umin Thoneze Pagoda                (6) Shinpinnanoo Pagoda
    (7) Shinpinnankaing Pagoda             (8) Laykyunmanaung Pagoda
    (9) Padamya Zedi                             (10) Tupayon Pagoda
    (11) Hsinphyushin Pagoda               (12) Ngadatkyi Pagoda
    (13) Aungmyelawka Pagoda            (14) Kaungmudaw Pagoda

    TAUNGPYONE NATS OR SPIRIT FESTIVAL (August 18, 2007)



    Taungpyone Nat or Spirit Festival is a popular festival usually held during the month of August at Taungpyone near Mandalay. According to tradition, Nats are spirits that can bring luck and prosperity to the worshippers and can also bring danger to those who do not respect them. The Myanmars worship them vigorously for fulfill their wishes, protect from ill-fate and danger, and bring good luck, prosperity and progress.
    Devotees from all over Myanmar, comes to this special festival and offer their donations and enjoy themselves with the blessings of the spirits every year.
    So if you have a visit to Myanmar in August, you can learn about new cultures and have extraordinary experience in Taungpyone Nat Festival.

    BUDDHIST LENT PERIOD (August 10, 2007)


    Buddhist Lent period commence from full moon day of Waso, 29th July until full moon day of Thadingyut, 26th October in Gregorian calendar. During these three months, Buddhist devotees observe Sabbath on every Sabbath days which falls on every week. On that Sabbath day, the persons who observing usually goes to the monastery or Dhamma Hall to receive nine precepts from the monks and has to have the lunch before twelve and then fasting until dawn at the next day. And also has to say prayers, telling beats or practice meditation. On that particular Sabbath day Buddhist devotees usually invite the group of monks to their places and offer alms at dawn.
    If you visit during above mentioned lent period, you can study the religious ceremony on every Sabbath day.
